Six tornadoes — two of them EF3 — struck Canada's capital region on a September Friday in 2018. Dozens were injured and entire neighbourhoods leveled, yet nobody died. It became Canada's modern warning-system success story.

- Destroyed the Merivale electrical substation — the cause of the mass outage.
- Hundreds of mature trees snapped in a dense residential area.
- Struck with residents home on a Friday evening — warnings sent people to basements.
Why nobody died
- Environment Canada issued tornado warnings pushed to every phone via Alert Ready.
- The 2018 event was an early large-scale test of Canada's wireless alert system — it worked.
