How to read a tornado outlook

Most agencies rate the day's severe-weather threat on a graded scale. In the US the SPC uses five levels — Marginal, Slight, Enhanced, Moderate, and High — plus a general-thunderstorm category, and separate maps for tornado, wind, and hail probability. A higher level means a greater coverage and intensity of severe storms, not a certainty for any one place. Full explanations are on our US forecast page.

What should I do during a tornado warning?
