About the game
Tornadoes come in many shapes, and their form tells you a lot about how they behave. Spot the Twister shows you a tornado and asks you to identify its type from four choices. Get it right to build your streak across ten rounds, then share your score.
The tornado types
- Rope — thin and snaking, often the birth or death stage of a tornado.
- Cone — the classic funnel, wider at the cloud base than at the ground.
- Wedge — appears at least as wide as it is tall; often the most violent.
- Stovepipe — a tall column of nearly uniform width.
- Multi-vortex — several small suction vortices circling one center.
- Waterspout — a tornado over water.
- Landspout — a weaker tornado not tied to a supercell's mesocyclone.
- Elephant trunk — a tapering, curving funnel that narrows toward the ground.
