Or start with the tornado-alley heavies: Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Alabama, Mississippi.

The alleys

Tornado Alley

The traditional zone stretching from north Texas through Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska. Flat terrain, dryline convection, and peak activity in April-June. Historically the most photogenic supercells.

Dixie Alley

Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, western Georgia and northern Louisiana. Nocturnal tornadoes, rain-wrapped storms, and heavy tree cover make Dixie Alley the deadliest US tornado zone β€” more per-tornado fatalities than the traditional alley.

Hoosier Alley

The lesser-known Ohio Valley zone: Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky. Peaks slightly later than Tornado Alley (May-June) and has produced some of the deadliest single tornadoes ever, including the 1925 Tri-State Tornado.
